Injury Procedure

MWNA Procedures for Injuries during Games

All clubs must have an orange band identified primary carer for each game.
Where possible the Primary carer should have health or medical related experience.
Any Stoppage for Injury or Illness will be managed as per the Official Rules of Netball.
Primary Carers are the only persons allowed on the court to attend to the injured player during a Stoppage for Injury or Illness until the physio arrives (if needed).

Do not move the player if injury is to the head, neck, back or a severe limb injury.

If the injury is serious:-

  • Immobilise the casualty – DRABC if necessary
  • Send a runner to get MWNA physio to attend to the player
  • ONLY MWNA physio or duty executive to ring for ambulance
  • Executive member to go to injured player to support physio and to maintain crowd control
  • Another Executive member to meet the ambulance on Abbott Road and escort them to the casualty
  • At physio request a PA announcement for a doctor or medical expert can be made
  • Umpires to hold game recommencement until advised by executive or physio
  • Executive members to keep in contact with Duty exec in control who will hold games as necessary
  • Executive member with casualty to notify control if court change required
  • N.B. Injuries are the MWNA physiotherapist’s priority
The Physio is MWNA’s primary response and coordinator for further resources
